In 1994 Deanna Siess was approched about becoming the director of this school. Mrs. Siess told the owners that she would like to have the school named in honor of her father, Melvin Joseph Miller. Mr. Miller had supported Deanna in her dream of becoming a cosmetologist and served as an inspiration to her through out her life.

On May 31, 1995 the MJM Institute of Cosmetology opened it doors and began training the first class of students. At the time of the school's opening Mr. Miller was seriously ill and unable to attend. However on a trip home to see her parents Deanna was able to show her father a picture of the school and explain the significance of the name.

On January 17, 1997 Melvin J. Miller passed from this life and entered the Kingdom of Heaven. His spirit lives on in the lives of all the students who pass through The MJM Institute of Cosmetology, and all who enter here may draw inspiration from his life.
